An organizational meeting for Phase I of the Pre-Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan for Phillipston was held on Monday, June 25th at the Public Safety Center on State Road. Attending were representatives from Montachusett Regional Planning Commission, and the Phillipston Fire, Police, and Highway Departments.
Types of natural hazards were discussed and provisionally rated for “Likelihood of Occurrence”, “Location”, and “Impacts”. Several sites within the town were tentatively identified as potentially at risk.
This information will be presented to the public and local officials for comment and revision at a public meeting to be held in July.
A second public meeting will be held later this year to obtain further public input.
The final goal is to develop and receive federal approval of a working plan. This will enable the town to initiate projects to reduce damages from natural events and to seek federal funding.
