The moderator is the presiding town officer who regulates the proceedings, decides all questions of public order, and makes public declarations of all votes at town meetings. Town meeting is the legislative body for the town and the moderator ensures the smooth and orderly proceedings of town meeting. In order to preserve proper decorum and respect for all residents at town meeting, the moderator oversees the debate and safeguards the sanctity of the town meeting procedures by maintaining order. Before town meeting, the moderator will answer questions regarding town meeting procedures and the substance of articles presented at town meeting.
The Moderator also appoints the members of the Finance Committee. There are seven members, each appointed for staggered three year terms.
