Selectboard Changes its Meeting Night

Starting January 2019

Beginning in January the Phillipston Selectboard will be meeting on Wednesday nights.

The Board recently voted to make Wednesdays the standard evening for town offices. “While we were at it,” said Selectman Terry Dymek, “we figured we might as well make that our meeting night, too.”

Changing their meeting night allows for improved handling of payroll and vendor payments.

Until now, the town has used a split-week, with a biweekly payroll period running from Thursday through Wednesday. Now, the payroll week will match the calendar work week – Sunday through Saturday.

Vendor payments, too, will be processed on the calendar week, with Selectmen signing the warrants at their Wednesday evening meeting and payments issued by Friday.

Last year the Board voted to go from weekly meetings to every other week to match the warrant cycle. “By being more efficient during our meetings, we’re able to get the work done in less time,” noted Vice Chair Kim Pratt.  When a special topic merits more intense focus, the Board schedules a roundtable or workshop meeting to focus just on that item.
